In 1817, Branwell Bronte was born a few miles from Halifax. His sisters were to achieve worldwide fame, but Branwell had poems published in Halifax long before they went into print. By no means as successful as his sisters in the literary field, he showed great talent; but what went wrong? Tickets may be bought in advance online from  https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/mount-zion-heritage-chapel price £4.00, or  on the night on the door £5.00.

May 9th  - Stories from Stones

An event celebrating the spoken voice, poetry and prose.
“The stones we writers use are words.” Orhan Pamuk
Poet Mary Thomson will present an evening of readings, poems and prose which relate closely to her experience of Mount Zion and its locality; her actress daughter Cathy Sara, will co-present. To Mary’s published poems, will be added illuminating and entertaining pieces from writers such as J B Priestley and Ted Hughes.
‘Mary will once have been better known in these parts as Mary Sara, Ilkley gallery owner and art critic of the Yorkshire Post. Since she moved to Scotland, she has published poetry collections, including in 2023 Still Dancing, published by the highly regarded Red Squirrel Press. Over the last 20 years Mary and her actress daughter Cathy Sara (who has appeared in Downton Abbey, the Woman in Black, Emmerdale and West End productions), have presented two-women shows on many themes and at various venues, including the Ilkley Literature Festival Fringe.’
