We are pleased to say that we are offering school visits (our first of the year is in January!) and we are able to welcome adult groups too, who would like to find out more about Mount Zion. April 22nd, 7.00 pm - Branwell Bronte and his Halifax Friends A Heritage Talk by David Glover. An absolute must for all Bronte enthusiasts.

May 9th  - Stories from Stone 

An event celebrating the spoken voice, poetry and prose.
“The stones we writers use are words.” Orhan Pamuk
Poet Mary Thomson will present an evening of readings, poems and prose which relate closely to her experience of Mount Zion and its locality; her actress daughter Cathy Sara, will co-present. To Mary’s published poems, will be added illuminating and entertaining pieces from writers such as J B Priestley and Ted Hughes.
‘Mary will once have been better known in these parts as Mary Sara, Ilkley gallery owner and art critic of the Yorkshire Post. Since she moved to Scotland, she has published poetry collections, including in 2023 Still Dancing, published by the highly regarded Red Squirrel Press. Over the last 20 years Mary and her actress daughter Cathy Sara (who has appeared in Downton Abbey, the Woman in Black, Emmerdale and West End productions), have presented two-women shows on many themes and at various venues, including the Ilkley Literature Festival Fringe.’

May 27th, 7.00 pm - Heritage Talk presented by David Glover.

Born in Song: music in Halifax and its influence on people's social and religious lives; the Whitsuntide 'big sing'.  

June 2nd, 2.00 pm  - Heritage Talk - 'A History of Mount Zion; rebels and reformers in the Parish of Bradshaw' - Dr Diane Hadwen. Please note this talk will be held at St John's Parish Church, Bradshaw.

September 19th, 10.30 am to 4.30 pm - Heritage Open Day 

'Working People'; a chance to visit the Chapel and explore the legacy of working people who once lived around and worshipped at Mount Zion. HOD will include a Heritage Talk at 3.00 pm by David Glover, exploring working people and the story of key employers in Calderdale

September the 20th, 2.00 pm - Bringing in the Harvest  A service organised by members of Illingworth Methodist Church and led by the Reverend Tony Morling, all welcome.

October 21st  7.00pm - Strange and Scary Calderdale Tales A Heritage Talk presented by David Glover, appropriate to the time of year!

December 13th, 2.00 pm - Community Carol Service. Our traditional start to Christmas. Led by the Reverend Tony Morling. All welcome.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

14th and 15th December, 1.00 pm - Whitehill Primary Academy's Christmas Carol Concerts. Looking forward to a full house and wonderful song!

 

Please remember the second of Wednesday of every month, 2.00pm, there is a Prayer Circle in the cottage, organised by members of Illingworth Methodist Church. All welcome.
