In May 2026 Mount Zion was fortunate enough to welcome published poet, writer and artist Mary Thomson and her actor daughter Cathy Sara. They performed a very well received 'two women show', to a full chapel, exploring the special place which is Mount Zion, local characters, artists, poets and writers. Mary was inspired by contact with Mount Zion to write two original poems. She has very kindly allowed them to be reproduced here and we hope to be able to use them as resources in the future with schools and colleges. Mary Thomson was born and brought up on Cheshire farm, spent her working life in Yorkshire as gallery owner, curator, art critic and freelance writer. She moved to Scotland in 2006 to marry a Scot. Since then she has published eight pamphlet collections of poems, three of which were short listed for the Callum Macdonald Pamphlet Poetry Award.
She lives in Glasgow overlooking Glasgow Green, and her collection of poems titled Still Dancing was published by the highly respected Scottish publisher of poetry, Red Squirrel Press, in October 2023 on her 80th birthday.
